BirthPartners Birth Assisting
BirthPartners was established in 2005 to provide a team approach to birth assisting. Since then, BirthPartners has attended the births of over 1,300 BirthCare clients. It all started when Lori invited Pam to be her birth assistant for her last birth! They realized that they both loved birth work, had a similar philosophy and approach, and made a great team. Mary Beth joined Lori and Pam in 2009, when one of the midwives noticed a similar approach and style during her orientation at BirthCare. Then we met Marilyn in 2011, and we all fell in love again! Here we are today…we work well together and have excellent coverage for our clients. We all share a common philosophy: Birth is sacred. Mothers deserve to be cared for tenderly, passionately, and with excellence. Mothers deserve to be listened to and supported. We are meant to be at the births we attend and we cherish our mamas and babies. We look forward to helping you during your transformative journey into motherhood!

More About Each Birth Partner
Marilyn Alger: I found my passion for birth work in 1993. I have worked as a doula and birth assistant attending over 700 births and joined BirthPartners Birth Assisting in 2013. I am also a certified Hypnobabies ChildbirthHypnosis® instructor, teaching since 2008. I am a board certified massage therapist specializing in prenatal massage. My husband Tony and I have been married since 1983 and have 4 children, 2 born in the hospital, 1 at a birth center, and 1 at home. I am an enthusiastic supporter of breastfeeding, all of my children were breastfed, and I love to help new babies learn how to nurse. Outside of birth, my greatest joy is my faith and my family. I also love playing with my grandchildren, planning family events, gardening and sewing. I look forward to helping you along your birth journey!
Mary Beth Harris: I have been helping pregnant women and families since 2004. I began as a Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth instructor, after the birth of my daughter in 2003. My daughter was breastfed for two years, after which time I began attending births as a Labor and Birth Doula in early 2006. I learned a lot about birth and its variations while working with expecting families at most of the area hospitals in the D-M-V. I have been a Birth Assistant with BirthCare and a member of the BirthPartners Birth Assisting team since the spring of 2010 and have attended over 250 births. In July of 2014, my family and I welcomed a son – born at BirthCare under the expert guidance of my partners and my exceptional midwife, Marsha. I like to say, “This work chose me, and I consider it vocational to serve women and families.” When I’m not at a birth, my days are filled with serving in my church community, running, crossfit and yoga, cooking and entertaining, and coaching volleyball in the fall. I can’t wait to be a part of your special day
Pam Llewellyn: I have been working with expecting families since 1989. One of the founding members of BirthPartners Birth Assisting, my experience includes teaching natural childbirth classes for 13 years (over 250 student couples); working as a certified doula since 1993; and working as a birth assistant since 1996. I have attended the births of over 700 clients. My husband Nelson and I have been married since 1981; we have four children (1 son and 3 daughters) born between 1983 and 1998 (two hospital births, two home births). All of my children were breastfed and homeschooled. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, doing needle crafts, staying active in my church, and playing with my new grand baby – whose home birth I was blessed to attend! I am looking forward to serving at your birth, too!
Lori Stillwagon: I have been involved in birthwork since 1991. One of the founding members of BirthPartners Birth Assisting, my training and experience include a Bachelor of Science in Biology, natural birth education, doula work, and midwifery study. I have been working as a birth assistant since 2004 and attended the births of over 500 clients. I am currently the business manager of BirthPartners. Additionally, I am a military wife, married to Mark. Together we have 4 daughters and 1 son, born between 1985 and 2003 – two hospital births and three home births. All of my children have been breastfed. I keep busy outside of work by homeschooling, studying martial arts, cooking, gardening, backpacking, doing crafts, and reading. I am looking forward to serving you!
