My name is Gwen Peters. AKA Gwenma to my seven grandkids. So I’m the Grandmother in the group; if you want the quiet, comforting type, that’s me. I’ve been birth-assisting and Doula-ing since 1988. In 1985 I started teaching The Bradley® Method and got a call from someone who asked me if I did birth assisting. My reply- “What’s that” led to training, more training, (passed the NARM test, originally certified through Informed Birth and Parenting, and seminars and classes too numerous to list here) and since then 425 births and counting. I started birth assisting when I lived in Columbia, MD (with a midwife from Silver Spring) and now I’m happy to work more with Birth Care since I moved closer eight years ago. My home is 10 miles south of the Beltway, in MD, a little town called Accokeek. It’s across the river from Mt. Vernon. But, have car, will travel to NOVA, MD, DC. Of course the closer the better. I have even been cajoled into going to Stafford for a postpartum. Claudia, Doris and I have a back-up arrangement. I structure my fees to be consistent with other birth assistants, $850 for a home birth and $900 for a birth center. Don’t tell anyone, but I have been known to barter or take payments so you can afford the fee and stay with Birth Care.
You can call me: 301-283-0247 h. 443-414-3483 c. 1-877-350-4010 toll free. I don’t have a website yet. My e-mail is gwencee@aol.com.
