The early morning hours of Sept. 6th I began feeling pressure in my bottom area and felt like I had to use the bathroom. This feeling kept coming and going as I laid back down and waited for the sun to rise. Finally I just got up and cooked some oatmeal for my 2 1/2 year old before he woke up. Around 6am my husband was up getting ready for work and I told him about the pressure I was feeling and told him I would call him if anything changes throughout the day. I got my son up around 7 and got him ready for daycare, we ate and then I drove him into DC for school. Oh by this point I began mild contractions which were coming about every 15 mins or so. I informed my son's teacher (who also happens to be his babysitter) that she would need to take him home for me since I was def. beginning labour! I returned home and did laundry, ordered a pizza, walked around our townhouse community and tried to rest. My birth assisstant arrived around 4pm and we began our hypnobirthing session. She then had to leave around 6 to attend her daughter's parent/teacher night. Midwife Marsha arrived around 7pm after she finished up at BC and when she checked me I was about 3-4 cm so she went downstairs to work on my chart and eat. I took a shower and at that point my contractions began to immediately increase so I called my husband, who was about to get off work anyway (from his 12 hour shift) and told him to high-tale it home! I called my birth asst to tell her to come back soon too. Around 9pm I was lying on the bed going through each contraction alone as I waited for my team to arrive, Marsha was resting at this point awaiting a long night of labour. Finally my husband & BA arrived and they comforted me through each contraction. My husband had me sipping on allspice tea, which we found really helped with an easier labour cause I drank it in labour with our son too. After lying on the bed for a while my husband wanted me to get up and walk a bit--the force of gravity. So I got up and saw that my water had finally broken and I began to use my birth ball to lean on cause I couldn't walk much as i began to feel tremendous pressure and wanted to use the bathroom. As I grunted more intensely, Marsha came rushing into the room and everyone began scrambling to prepare the floor for the birth as I was not going to make it back on the bed. With just 2 strong pushes, our baby girl Zoe Simone arrived at 11:09 pm. Born on 9/6/07 at home in Oxon Hill,MD weighing 7 lbs 1 oz.
