I began my visits at BirthCare for general GYN services in late 2003 and ended up getting pregnant with my first child in 2004 and was so happy that I found a place that catered to the whole-self and really focused on the patients needs throughout the pregnancy process. I was all too excited again this year when I became pregnant again cause I was really looking forward to my visits with the midwives! They are very warm and passionate about what they do and the office staf—though they have changed a few people over the years—continue to offer a warm environment and know each patient by name when they come into the office. I have referred others to BirthCare so they can experience something other than the typical hospital office experience.

I loved my experience with Birthcare. They were completely in sync with my attitude about birthing and all of the midwives were supportive in every way. I felt a personal connection with each of them and their confidence in the entire birth experience kept me assured and positive throughout the pregnancy and delivery.

Our daughter was born at BirthCare with Regina as our midwife, and it was everything I had hoped for in a natural birth! The midwives were kind, patient and understanding at my prenatal visits. They answered all of my questions and calmed all of my fears. I loved the personalized care, the relaxed home-like atmosphere, the family-oriented waiting room, and the beautiful birthing rooms. Since my previous 2 children were born in a hospital, I couldn't wait to experience birth at the birth center! The freedom I had to walk around during labor, to eat and drink, and to labor in the jacuzzi, all helped to make my birth a positive experience. When Clara was born, she was placed skin to skin on my chest and we were able to bond and cuddle with her undisturbed, such a different scene from that of a typical hospital birth. I wish we still lived in Virginia so that my next baby could be born at BirthCare!

I was hesitant to have a home birth and did not always have positive reactions when I shared what my plans were with family and friends. BirthCare, however, was reassuring and attentive to my needs both physically and emotionally. They waited until I was ready to make the decision to deliver at home on my own (eight month process), but it truly was the best choice for us. I looked forward to my appointments and was not the least bit anxious or fearful the on the night that my son, Simon, was born and that my midwife came to our home. He was born in about 6 hours and my birth assistant and midwife (Erin) were there for us the entire process. I have such great memories of by son’s home birth and would proudly experience it one many more times. Simon is our third and last baby and it was a great way to begin the life of my youngest child and a great birth story to remember as my last experience. Thank you BirthCare.

My experience with BirthCare could not have been better. The personalized care I received from BirthCare's midwives throughout my pregnancy helped me feel secure and confident. The expert capabilities and warm, attentive spirit of my midwife during labor, Alice Bailes, made my baby Ava's birthday a happy, peaceful and unforgettable event.

I am very thankful to have found BirthCare. I wish more women knew how wonderful out-of-hospital birth can be. The following are my reasons for using BirthCare.

The BirthCare midwives:

  • acknowledge that I am the person in charge of MY birthing experience
  • exude competence and confidence
  • trust my body's ability to birth my baby
  • engaged my daughter in the pregnancy and birth
  • handled my newborn with gentleness and respect
  • spent time listening to my concerns and fears
  • know when to be hands on, and more importantly, when to be hands-off during birth
  • provide fantastic support during and after birth, including home visits!
