Martha Dunaway Weaver was born to a midwife and has been around birthing women all her life. She received her master’s degree in nurse-midwifery from Georgetown University in 1984 and began doing home births in the Washington, DC area soon after. She has always been a part of Birth Care and Women’s Health and was the first midwife employed by Marsha and Alice in 1987. In addition to working at Birth Care over the years, she has been a Birth Care client and is very grateful to have given birth to her four children at home with Birth Care midwives in attendance.
Martha loves to hear women’s birth stories and help them process the amazing events that have taken place in their lives. When seeing clients in the office, she aims to help women better understand their own bodies and cycles. If requested, she happily discusses how clients can use natural family planning techniques for conception as well as contraception. Her desire is to be a good listener and give thoughtful physical and spiritual midwifery care to each woman she encounters. Consequently she is always available to pray for anyone who asks. She currently works in the office and is on-call for births at BirthCare.
