Abiana Patton

Hi there! My name is Abiana and I am a D.C native, who has been practicing birthwork  for six years. I began as a doula in 2017 and knew, from supporting so many families in the hospital, that women deserved more  opportunities to have the birth that they desired. My passion for reproductive autonomy has led me to become a student of midwifery at Midwives College of Utah, where I am currently in my final year. I have assisted at over 70 births in the capacity as a doula, student midwife and birth assistant, although just formally beginning as a BirthCare birth assistant in 2023.

As your birth assistant, I will be the midwife’s second set of hands as she is your primary care provider throughout your pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. I strive to provide emotional and physical support along with the clinical support already provided. My philosophy of practice is that birth is a normal, physiological process.

On a personal note, I had my own special home birth experience with the birth of my daughter in 2020. (Yes! RIGHT before the pandemic). Outside of birth work, I enjoy trips to the beach when I’m not on call, family time, gardening, and learning about herbal medicine.

Service area: I service areas within a 15 mile radius of Petworth, D.C. (including the birth center). On a case by case basis, I can travel longer distances. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Fee: $950. $50 discount offered for families who can provide proof of Medicaid/SNAP/TANF. Discount offered if paid in full by 32 weeks.

Trainings and certifications: Adult and infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), NRP (neonatal resuscitation), Birthwell doula certification, Steamy chick’s vaginal steam facilitator, Thai Womb Lifting massage, Spinning Babies, Birthcare midwifery apprenticeship, Sky House herbal apprenticeship

Additional services offered: Postpartum doula support ($30/ HR), 30 minute postpartum vaginal steam ($55/1, $150/3)
